microsoft security essentials query

hello
today i got a pop up from the red shield of windows security centre saying that mys "malware protection was turned off" and "my virus protection and spyware and other protection were turned off". yet when i click on the green mse boat icon (or is it a castle icon?) it says everything is ok. i am running mse and malwarebytes - and did a scan with the latter recently with nothing coming up. has malwarebytes turend off the mse virus protection? i'm a bit dubious of instantly tuurning on the mse malware protection as i get anothe rpop up saying "you are about to run a programme that did not come with winddws, do you trust this programme". all advice welcome! many thanks and best wishes,

    Depends,

Mine does that too for a brief period on booting up the machine.... I assumed it was related to MSE explicitly checking all its processes are running correctly and reporting OK which they might not be quite there with when they're just being started up.

If its happening when your PC is up and running and not part of it starting up i'd be a little concerned and want to investigate further....

yes that may be it, thanks for info - i left the machine all day and now notice the shield has disappeared and i have just checked the control panel which shows everything is shown as being switched on.
    best wishes

try avast free instead of mse and make sure you have done a full malwarebytes scan after updating
