In defence of the Archos 32 and the folks that don't like the screen ... you need to apply the latest update from the company's website and you'll find most of those issues will disappear - and this is from first hand knowledge as I won one of these in a twitter competition. What I will say is that screen is very small though my daugther, also 11, is happy playing with it - not asked her about the music side of things though.0

The Orange San Francisco - around £100 PAYG.
So it's an OS failing rather than hardware?
Not necessarily a failing, its just how its designed. It stops apps creating issues with other apps. All part of the apple 'walled garden' approach
One major bonus of buying iOS products is that you know your product will always get software updates. iOS 5 is out soon and that'll have some nice improvements to it0 -

As opposed to which OS that doesn't get updates? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

I have an Orange San Francisco which doesn't get much use as a phone - mainly used for listening to music and watching films, (I prefer OLED to LCD) plus it has microSD.
I downloaded and use PowerAmp which I prefer to any other music app.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Seriously, Android does suffer from a terrible fragmentation issue. I've got a HTC Desire HD, running Gingerbread (android 2.3)
Do I ever expect to get an upgraded version of android on it? No way. The entire separation between hardware and software might work for PCs, but it doesn't for phones. Do I expect my Ipad2 to get software upgrades in the coming yes? Definitely
I like android, but it tries to be too much. It's a great idea, but portable media devices don't need such a complex system. I think its a shame that a manufacturer like sony or samsung haven't tried to 'out do' apple by making a portable media OS. Maybe Samsung should have stuck with Bada and put that on a media player.
Even that Galaxy 5 player only has an old version of android (2.2), and that costs £199 (and is likely to never get upgraded)0 -

Android gets regular updates. I think you are confusing OS updates with customer support from hardware manufacturers. (Anyway, until Ice Cream is rolled out, Gingerbread is the current version for phones. Ice Cream (as I understand it) combines the tablet and phone capability, eliminating fragmentation. And I'm not sure why you don't think your Desire won't get any more updates - HTC have a good track record in that respect).
And of course you expect your iPad to get updates. Just like my Asus Transformer which has already been updated regularly, and I await my Ice Cream which is imminent.
It's inevitable that existing hardware will fall behind the state of the art as OS's develop. Is an original iPhone capable of running the latest version of iOS without slowing to a crawl and will every iPhone always be capable of running the most current and capable versions for ever? I doubt it.There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
