nissan x-trail losing power at speed

I have a 54 plate Nissan Xtrail 2.2 turbo diesel and today when I had it out and put my foot to the floor it seemed to be momentarily cutting out. I know nothing about cars so any comments will need to be in plain english.

Usually I do fairly short journeys and just use it to potter around (I know I should do longer journeys with a diesel engine but don't have the need and can't change the car now). Today I drove for a while and noticed that when I was overtaking cars or moving into the outside lane the car seemed to lose engine power. This only seemed to last a couple of seconds each time and was always when my foot was to the floor. It also seemed to happen in 4th or 5th gear each time. I tried putting my foot down in 2nd and nothing out of the ordinary happened.

I have read some horror stories of the cost of getting the turbo thing replaced. Is this a sign it is going?

The car has only done 36K miles and just had the back 2 tyres replaced last week if that has any impact. There doesn't appear to be anything leaking from it as my slabs are clean and I haven't noticed anything else different.

Any ideas? Do I need to get it to the garage quickly or is this just a quirk I have never noticed before as I don't tend to go fast or far in it?

It could just be the diesel fuel filter slightly blocked - so not able to pass enough diesel for wode open throttle

How do I get it unblocked? I put diesel in it this morning, around half a tanks worth taking it up to 3/4 tank. I tend to let it go onto the red before filling up usually.

Look up banjo filter on nissan diesels, they are famous for blocking, a tiny guaze filter that causes loss of power.

I have had a quick look and what I found says that this is common in high mileage cars. Mine is very low.

Should I take it to the garage and ask them to check this first before anything else?
