Mobile phones started big with abysmal battery life. Just after they shrank to the point you might need your glasses on to find them and couldn't remember when you last charged yours along came smartphones which need big pockets and a daily charge - plus many are poor at making calls
I've got a smartphone but I leave an old Nokia in the car just in case.
Spot on we replaced 3 "smarter" phones all brought at the same time- Smasung Toco lite and replaced them with HTC Desires.
The two for older teenagers last less than a day - straight from day 1 and one of them is now down to hours. The one for my wife lasts a couple of days tops.
Whilst the younger ones are obviously using them a lot including music - browsing and screen usage is power hungry. Also believe that if you have a number of "apps" loaded many are constantly active and therefore have a background drain."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... I've always had Nokias - this HTC Desire that I've just got is the first phone I've ever had that hasn't been a Nokia!
So far the battery is lasting reasonable well, more than I thought actually - it's doing about 48-50 hours between charges to get from 100% to about 25%. I'm not a big user though, I only really use it for texting (bit of a waste I know, I'd have been better off with a 'dumb' phone!) and I keep the wifi, 3g and screen brightness switched off unless I need them.
I got a smartphone this time round because all the normal phones were ugly and I had lots of 'credit' to spend on one. I'm not liking it that much actually, don't get me wrong Iits a nice phone and everything but it's far too big, and I'm not keen on the touchscreen, and I don't like the qwerty keyboard on it! When someone was clever enough to invent predictive text, why go back to having to press every individual letter? :rotfl: Need to have a play and see if I can change it back to keypad style!
Thanks again for all the battery advice!Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -

Apparently Android has built in memory management and whilst apps may be running in the background they don't actually drain battery unless they are constantly syncing with the internet (e.g. facebook). So I've read anyway and it seems to be the case with mine so far.

Android is a serious battery hog. Applications in the background on any platform don't drain the battery either. They just clutter the ram.0
