    Except that I never close 'redundant accounts' if they are the last account open with the savings group. I just leave a nominal £1 in them.
    When they next bring out a 'rate beating account' it makes it a lot easier if you are already on the system with an existing account and don't have to go through the verifying ID crap again. (I'm never electronically ID'd - I always have to supply ID documents)

    Glad to hear you got an explanation, although it's a shame you were given a misleading response when you first called. Whoever blocked you out must have been a bit of a numpty to get their own customer ID wrong 3 times in a row!
