Travel Insurance

Hello

Me and my girlfriend are due to go travelling around the world (exc USA and Canada) for 9 months departing 3 October.
I would like to know if anyone can suggest a particularly good insurer for this type of trip?

Most policies offer curtailment cover which i assume will cover the costs of a one-way flight back to the UK in the event of a family bereavment- are there any policies that will cover a return flight to the UK and back out to my foreign destination again after I have attended the funeral?

Of the policies I have seen Direct Travel seem to offer a decent level of cover, including £2k curtailment cover and £100 excess in their Backpacker policy - have they got a good reputation as an insurer?

Also, we will be doing activities such as rafting, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing, treking/hiking through jungle/up volcanoes etc... are these covered?

Thanks for your help

Regards,

Alex Kent

I don't know if any company will pay for you to resume a holiday if they have flown you home under curtailment.

As for the hazardous activities, there is a list on their website of those covered and those that need an extra premium.
  • Trailfinders are good for cover and longer trips. Doubt they would cover you flying back out after a funeral though.

  • I don't think you would find an insurance company that would fly you home under curtailment and then back out again.

There are some policies where you can return home during the cover and back again without invalidating the policy but you would have to pay for the flight yourself.

There are quite a few insurance companies that include a lot of activities already in the premium.

24/7's backpacker policy include loads of activities but there are additional packs you can purchase aswell.
