Travel insurance

Hi, I'm probably over thinking this but we have an expensive holiday (well it is in my world) booked from 13/9/11 to 21/9/11 and I've just got this horrible feeling that for some reason we won't be able to go and will have to cancel beforehand. When I book travel insurance and if for some reason we have to cancel the holiday say a week beforehand do i need to get the travel insurance say from today until 21/9/11 or just from 13/9/11 to 21/9/11?

When you take out travel insurance some sections cover you for the period of the holiday (such as theft, lost baggage, curtailment etc.) and some cover you from the time you take it out until the holiday is over (primarily cancellation). So take it out now and cover will apply - you should always do this anyway. However, whether the cover will include whatever you think you may have to cancel for depends on the reason for the cancellation. If it's for something like an ill relative and that relative is already ill you would need to declare that when taking out the insurance and you probably wouldn't be covered for cancellation.0

We have an annual multi trip travel insurance. We were due to fly to Australia using air miles. Due to a health condition totally out of the blue, we have to cancel. Does anyone know if we can claim on insurance, the air miles were my sons and he booked the flights for us.

If it is single trip insurance it will ask you for the dates of travel. However cancellation cover starts from when you take it out until you depart.
Travel insurance won't cover for an event that happens before the insurance is taken out or something you already know about. That is why insurance should be taken out as soon as the travel is booked.0 -

Not all insurance policies cover air miles so you will have to check your own policy.0
