Hi all,
Have recently had a few problems with my PC, and sent error reports to microsoft. Had a telephone call today who made it sound like it was Microsoft (Later clarified they were 'Microsoft approved technicians'). I (stupidly) followed his instructions and allowed remote access through my internet connection and watched while he checked error logs and deleted a load of temporary files etc. He then told me my free antivirus software wasn't enough and stated that he was going to install software (c clean, registry and antivirus) and was signing me up for 1 yr technical support for just £96. At this point alarm bells rang and I questioned it. The price dropped to £48. I told them I couldnt afford to pay it and he (eventually) disconnected the remote access (I think???) Havent knowingly installed anything, and didnt give any personal details (he actually had my name wrong when he called) but I have made debit card payments online in the past (both on a company's site and through paypal) and I'm worried I might be at risk??? If anyone can advise/reassure me, i would be very grateful

If you have a system restore point for before the call, run that
You may end up with desktop icons for anything he installed, though they should not run if you click them, you can delete those
If you are happy to look in the programme files folder, you can check for folders named as the programmes he said he would install
Which version of Windows
You can disable remote assistance0 -
It's windows xp. Have looked at remote assistance and it was listed as an exception for firewall so have blocked that. Also can't see any new programmes. Have never created a restore point, so I guess that options out?0

Worth looking for a system restore point as they should be automatic, unless you disabled it
For remote access

Or

Or

Restore points are created automatically click on
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
Choose > Restore my computer to an earlier time
Choose a date and follow the instructions0
