hedge trimming
Had a knock at the door last night asking if we wanted the hedges trimmed. Offered a discount for cash. Said last minute job had been cancelled.
Any one of these was enough to send me running to close the door and all three combined had me waiting for the next line about his uncle a member of the nigerian royal family who had won the lottery but needed some cash to free it up.
However on the plus side a card was provided, the number and address are local , and the card claims NPTC qualified and insured. He also was knowledgable on the different trees, and shrubs.
So I said yes - but just wanted some feedback on how the price sounds. To me it sounded ok but not had a job this size quoted before.
Cost is £800 for trimming down 80 -100 ft of various hedges and trees. Hedges will need between 5ft and 10ft taken off them. In addition to trim and reshape a couple of feature trees. All trimmings to be removed and he said it would take a day and a half with a team of 4 or 5 of them.
I have looked at NPTC web site but there is now way of checking qualifications online. Does anyone know if they will provide confirmation of qualifications over the phone?
Cheers

Just remeasured area and its closer to 150 ft and will be taking 5-10ft off the top and trimming back the sides.

I don't think NPTC have any way of letting people check on qualifications with them.
You could ask the tradesman to show their certificate though.
NPTC have probably hundreds of different qualifications, so it may or may not be relevant to your job0 -
I have about 500m of hedge cut every year with a tractor mounted flail. That takes 90 mins or so & costs me £40, plus tea & biscuits.
Not the kind of job you're wanting, though, I expect! :rotfl:0 -
To be honest at that price if I could squeeze a tractor in there I probably would.
Job has now been done and am quite pleased. Am fairly sure something a bit didgy is going on but the jobs been done well.0
