can't get sound on tv from laptop

Can someone help. Got an Acer5743 notebook. Can connect it to the tv but cant get sound even tho I have connected the proper cables. Tried lots of things but nothing works:(

The multi-pin connecter you've probably used will only send the pictures.

You need to send the sound via the laptop's headphone jack socket.

The telly may not have an identical input, but it will probably have red and white phono inputs.

You then need a jack plug to twin phono plug lead.

If you have one on your computer and your TV, and you connect them, you should get picture and sound. Don't waste money on an expensive cable - a cheap one will do.

This is a VGA socket.


This carries video only - no sound. Some TV's have a VGA socket, and you can connect them to your computer. You will need a cable like this:

Which you connect to the earphone socket on your computer, and the audio in on your TV or your HiFi to get sound.

Not all lappies put sound out via hdmi. , HD video yes, sound maybe maybe not

Tried all of the above, no luck but my kind neighbour, who works with computers had a look and after about an hour finally got it sorted. Thank you so much to everyone who replied to my cry for help
