Can see wallpaper instead of top bar win7

I don't know why but when opening both firefox and ie9 and in all folders you can only see the wallpaper of the desktop on the bar that has the cross in top right hand corner. You can see the cross and the expand and reduce thing and the dropdown to taksbar but all the rest is see through to the wallpaper. Also apart from any tabs on the bar just below that it is also see through to the wallpaper.

I think it went like this after updating to ie9 or after a vaio update. Can I get it to go back to normal?

It's a vaio laptop

Right click on desktop - select "personalise" - then select a none-aero theme (ie Win7 basic)

Thanks, I tried that and it did work but the previous wallpaper was a chosen photograph that my daughter had selected as wallpaper, I'm sure it wasnt see through before. Is there any way to get her chosen photo to be non aero?

I also returned to ie8 can't be doing with any more confusion at the moment

For Firefox go to here pick a persona to preview and wear it. The plain ones in the Solid section work best for me. All this does is make the firefox menus not transparent.

Don't know (or care) about IE

Thanks, daughter confirmed it wasn't see through before and I've returned it to explorer 8 so it might not have been the explorer 9 update. The only other update was a sony one that was for a bar that sits at the top of the desktop (not sure if its sony exclusive or on all win7 pcs) the update was to make it less intrusive but it looks like it has had an affect somehow when you open any file or browser
