Renting Privately With 3 Defaults?

Options
Is it possible?

Myself and my partner are looking to rent privately but I'm worried about the credit check that letting agents take out.
I have 3 defaults on my credit file, that I am currently paying off.
My partner only has his student loan to his name, other than that, his credit score is fine.
We've saved up enough money for the first months rent and the deposit, but after that we will be applying for LHA.
Is this possible, or will the credit check stop us?
Thanks!

You need to ask them. Everywhere has a different definition of pass and fail. The homelet check is fairly forgiving.

So you want taxpayers to pay the rent for you via LHA? What happens if you don't get LHA after the first month?

Unfortunately I'm long term disabled and my partner is my carer, so we don't have the means to pay ourselves. I believe we are entitled to LHA as we are entitled to housing benefit.
  • Be aware that LHA is paid in arrears, so you will have to cover the full rent until it's sanctioned and then paid over to you. This can take months.

In your situation I would expect that any agent or landlord would be reluctant to let to you without several months rent in advance or that you supply a a guarantor. Possibly both.

As I asked, what happens if you don't get it after the first month? And who is paying for your housing at the moment?
