Boot cannot find Hard Disk on start up

While trying to improve the performance of my PC I "accidently!" altered some settings in the bios/cmos set up menu and now the computer will not boot to the operating system.

It apperars that I have caused the hard disk C drive to no longer be accessed on start up.

I have tried to reset the bios/cmos but even when I do auto detect settings it comes up as "not available"

On original switch on therefore I cannot boot up the operating system (even from a restore CD) and all I can access is drive A.

Any ideas???

(Yes., I know I should not fiddle!!!!)

Did you take out the cmos battery for about 2mins then re-insert it as that should clear the stored settings its the round battery inside the PC looks like a big watch battery.

May look similar to this cmos_battery.jpg
  • Yep, that sorted the problem and is a useful thing to know.

Thanks very much, and for such a quick response.
