If someone comes to your door and tells you to take off all your clothes and jump up and down, beware its a scam.
I wish someone had told me this yesterday as I feel quite foolish now!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0 -
You certainly took your time though. I was standing there for ages before you answered the door.0

I've had plenty of begging requests, including one guy in Preston who would beat himself up and then claim to have been robbed - don't worry, the police had always caught the guy who did it but kept his wallet as evidence, he just needed the bus fare to get to the hospital.
A girl asked me for money outside Hull train station many years back - she wanted to get back to Leeds but only had half the fare, and needed 50p. Even back then, a train ticket to Leeds cost much more than a pound!0 -
I too gave to a beggar once in the street. I had a good idea what he would spend the money on, drink..so..
I bought him and his dog a prawn sandwich, opened it up, fed one half to the (appreciative) doggy and the gave the rest of the opened packet to the beggar.
The forced smile/confused look on his face was something I'll never forget!
But I was sure the money went to a good cause.0 -
The only beggar i normally give money to, is the one outside Tesco in Goodge st, London. The reason being, that once i dropped my wallet at the cash point and he kindly told me, i kind of feel i owe him.0

Once, whilst stopping to tie my shoelace at the end of Hungerford Bridge, a woman pressed 50p into the palm of my hand and exhorted me to 'get a nice cup of tea, love'. Before I could refuse she'd rushed off, leaving me standing there, shouting 'I'm at university. I'm middle-class!' after her.
I was mortified, went home, and had a massive bath
I had a similar experience when I was about 15. I was waiting for a bus in dm's, one of those grungy khaki jackets with the German flag and probably looking a bit unkempt and I asked a woman standing with me at the bus stop for the time. The next thing I know, a police van pulls up besides me and two policemen start berating me, telling me not to beg and that begging can get me in trouble. I wasn't that bothered but I told my mum and she was livid and wrote a letter to the local police station and I got a letter of apology from them.

I was in London last week and was reading a magazine on a bench whilst waiting for my boyfriend. A scruffy man came and said 'hey love, got some change you could spare?' in quite a friendly way, but being wary, I said 'sorry, got no change on me' and then all of a sudden he turned nasty! He said 'I bet you rehearsed that line! How many times have you said that to people? Thinking you're better than everyone else!!'. I just sighed and went back to reading my mag which angered him more (my intention) and he said something else which I didn't catch then walked off. As if he expects people to give him money when he comes out with stuff like that!
Don't suppose it was near Liverpool Street? I had a similar experience a few months ago. All he did was make me feel very glad I hadn't given him anything! First time I'd been criticised by a beggar!0 -
Remember looks are deceiving though, I worked in a bank and we had one customer who dressed, looked and stank worse than any beggar! I think he was maybe homeless but he had over 10k in his bank account. But he wouldn't even buy clean clothes or have a bath. No excuse for it really in some cases.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

Ahh , all this chat about beggars and homeless people..... reminds me of the time I won a tidy sum on the lottery and gave my homeless brother a new home.
It was the box from my new 65" TV.0
