I've recently put a deposit down on a second hand car, but I have now decided that i no longer want the car. Basically I was forced inot putting a deposit down. after a couple of days i decided that i no longer want the car. I've since been told the car is already in my name, even though i haven't signed the log book for it!
what can i do?
what can i do?

The idea of a deposit is you have done your homework, you are happy with the car and you would like to buy it and ask the garage will tell people the car is sold.
I can't see them giving you your deposit back (in full) just because you have changed your mind or cos you have been told by a bloke in the pub not to buy one of them etc.
More fool them for filling out the V5 before the deal has been completed.0 -

No! do not think you were forced. You viewed vehicle thought you wanted it. Sellers says ok, leave a deposit and I will remove it from sale (or words etc to that effect)
You have now changed your mind. In the mean time it is possible the seller could have sold it.
That I believe what deposits are for.
As for vehicle now being in your name, that is (unfortunately for him) the sellers problem! Did you sign the V5?0 -
we are just about to do the same thing as after sleeping on the deal i am not happy with it.
we looked at the car and then after what seemed like hours being baffled with figures decided to go for lunch with the kids to have a think about it,
the salesman said how about a fully refundable deposit of £100 pound to hold car for a test drive, against my better judgement we paid deposit as the misses really liked the car, we tested it later that day and agreed on a to change price and collection date.
she has now changed her mind so i will be calling the garage in the morning,
we have not sighned anything just a verbal agreement and the salesman assured us the deposit was refundable if we change our mind.
heres hopeing he wasnt telling porky pies0 -

I've not signed the V5 so i don't quite understand how they could do this without my signature?!0 -

I mentioned about the log book to them and they said that they did this on every sale. My main concern is if they try to come after me for losses, and that if the vehicle is in my name that anything coule happen re speeding tickets etc0 -

If they have added you as another owner then more fool them to be honest.
Yes they could come after you for losses ie they could have sold the car to someone else - but that is what the deposit is for.0 -
the world seems to be full of people who leave deposits but then change their minds and expect the world to appease them
let me put it this way
if you bring your paper slip of appeasement to me and ive withdrawn a car from sale on the strength of your deposit you can sing in hell for it back
so many people think we dont have overheads bills advertising costs rent to pay
have you considered how much it costs to have a car standing when a deposit is left on it?
nothings free in this world including hard standing
next time think hard and if the salesman is holding your arm up your back to leave a deposit use the other arm to call the police
