Vent: DVLA & Names

Options
I recently moved and sent off my licence and log book to get the address changed. The licence came back without an issue, however I am quite cross with the log book. Both my first name and surname had been mis-spelled on the form  My surname ends in "tt" and one t was missing, which isn't so bad as it's a common mistake. My first name however was no where near close. I've sent in a complaint and asked for a prepaid envelope to send it back to them. I'm not paying postage due to their mistake.

It's not an common name but it's not difficult to spell or say (Bethan), though for some reason people always seem to assume I'm a Bethany or an Elizabeth if I use a short version. Either one of those or I get called Ruth! My own MIL has even called me Ruth. I've always been careful with peoples names and no one seems to get mine right :mad::mad:

Vent over.

  • Quite right Bethen. :)

    :p

I get that one a lot too
  • All jokes aside, who on Earth do you know who has difficulty saying or spelling Bethan? Are you hanging around with preschool children or something? :)
  • The DVLA for starters, a colleague last week, estate agent week before who went strait to Bethany, customers at work replying to emails often either spell it as Bethen or go right for Ruth, or Emma, had that one a few times.

The best was a store card application where half the B didn't scan into the computer right or something so my card turned up with Dethan on it.

No preschoolers, just idiots who don't pay attention.

Maybe they couldn't read your writing?

You don't need to send it back! RING THEM, point out the mistake(s). They will ask for the document ref & issue number and re-issue a new one. Just bin/shred the wrong one.

Been there, done it, sorted in 2 minutes.

No need to get your knickers in a twist, it's very easily sorted.

Like security at my work... nobody ever seems to understand my surname, even when I spell it to them.

I had forgotten my pass, so I logged in at security to borrow one. I told them my first name, then spelt my surname using the nato phonetic alphabet. I corrected the lady as she kept spelling it wrong even then.

Eventually I let her just do her thing, and she handed me my pass, "there you go, Karl."

Somehow, some way, despite my first name NOT being karl, she decided my name must be "karl monday."

Suffice to say, that was as far from my name as you can get unless you tried writing it in kanji.

I see your husband's name has caused the profanity filter to go into overdrive.

    Poor B****** :D
