Johnson's Cage n Hutch Inspect Spray alternative

I'm fed up of paying over £4 for Johnson's Cage n Hutch spray from pets at home. Is there an alternative available at a reasonable price?
Are specific pet sprays essential or is it an industry rip off to get us to pay extra for a standard product? What? Me cynical? Never!

Does it have the ingredients listed on the bottle? If not do they have details on their website? I'd try to find that out and just look for something similar. I always use dilute dettol or baby disinfectant for my bunnies, in an old spray bottle. Would depend what animals you are using it for though. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0

I use whatever I have at home. Diluted bleach, Flash, Cillit Bang....my bunnies have never come to any harm, but I do make sure the hutch is well rinsed and aired.0

Thanks both. We have a mild detergent that we use to clean the hutch but we also use an insect spray which is in an aerosol. I'm just wondering if normal house spray would be suitable, I'll hjave to comapre them.
It's for guinea pigs by the way.0 -
I used to use a herbal citronella spray to keep the bugs away..0

Be wary about using normal household disinfectants in small animal homes as some of the chemicals can leave fumes which are harmful to the animals.0 -

Can't remember
However, you can buy Citronella from Holland and Barret and simply water down in a spray. 0 -
The best disinfectant for guinea pigs and rabbit hutches is vinegar. Its natural and eats away the white calcium staining from urine.
For a more through disinfection I use a product called conficlean2. It might seem costly (£16 per lt) but you dilute it so each lt makes 100lt. I make up a small spray bottle as and when I need to.
