New York trip cancelled - Hurricane Irene

Hi All,

Hope someone can offer some help, Due to have flown out to New York this morning at 10.15, flight was cancelled on Friday due to hurricane Irene.

Spoke to my insurace company yesterday and they want conformation of why the flight was cancelled, conformation from BA of when Newark Airport was closed, and re-opened. Also if we could have flown on another flight within 12 hours!

Have never been in this situation before, and not quite sure where to gather all this information from. Would it be from our Travel company or from BA.

Hope someone can shed some light on this, thankfully New York does'nt look as badly hit as they first thought.

Thanks.

If you contact BA customer services, you can ask them to provide you with a letter for your insurance. Make sure you give them in your letter:
The names of the people travelling
    The booking reference
The flight number of the flight cancelled and its date.
If there is more than one person on your booking travelling, and you are not a family with the same surnames, you should make sure you have the permission and signature of all the adults on your letter, so that BA knows they can deal with you on their behalf.

I would get in quick, as there can be quite a big influx to Customer services after a disruption, and the sooner you get yours in, the higher up the queue.

  • Many Thanks for you help, kira000, have been going round in circles today trying to find all the information.
It was booked for me, OH, and my two sons.

No problem. If you all have the same surname, then you should be fine with one letter from you or your OH. Just include all of your names in the letter.
They may not be able to include the details on the closure times for Newark, but they could probably say when the first available flight would have been for you to travel on.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks Kira000,

You have been really helpful, you have helped me more in 5 minutes with you info, after I have been trawling the internet all day trying to get the information.

Me and OH have the same surname, my sons have different.

    Will ring BA tomorrow.
