Private survey or mortgage survey

We hav just had an offer accepted on a bungalow, which has created a 1st floor, 3rd bed room. The house I think is mid1960's and on viewing looks like electrics and heating/boiler will need redone but I would like the addition of the 1st floor fully investigated!
I would like to have a full survey done rather than a homebuyers report, does anybody have any advise on weather to use a survey done by the mtg provider or have our own private one done and just the basic valuation by the mtg company?

The lender's survey is a VALUATION, and is not similar in any regard to a proper structural survey. If you have concerns about the integrity of the first floor or anything else you should instruct a RICS-accredited surveyor to carry out a full structural survey. Personally I wouldn't bother with a Home-Buyer's Report.0

I think the question is should tinofpeas have a full structural survey done arranged via the mortgage lender or have the valuation survey via the mortgage lender and arrange a full structural survey separately.
Normally the former is cheaper though I've heard that's not always the case, the latter means you'll get to choose your own surveyor. Not sure if there are any other considerations, perhaps someone else could advise.0
