Yep, it can be the same in Classical

you wonder what the point of having specialists is dont you, when your more specialist than they are.

Once I was referred to the freebie magazine to find out what the name of an old Yousson D'our album was- its like, stuff this Ill use the internet
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Thanks everyone.. Dh has been really impressed by the replies.
He also says that mystery shopping is done at HMV and they use 'retaileye for their mystery shoppers.
Weird Al Yankovich is only available as import now and as a general rule stores don't stock imports but they can order import stock in for you.
Also with specialists it's hard for them to know every single artist out there but the staff should listen and be helpful with trying to help you find them and shouldn't just fob you off.

Anniestar. The way the staff treated you there is awful and I don't blame you for not going back! Personally I would've made a complaint to the manager or customer service helpline as other HMV employees have been sacked for similar dodgy service!

He says that he appreciates all your replies and has noticed that 'intimidating' has come up quite a bit... and does anyone know have any suggestions for things they'd like to see for it to be less intimdating to them?

    thanks again everyone :D

  • This is going to sound really odd but I think some of it has to do with their colour scheme? The black and purple could be seen as being a bit aggressive and intimidating - but then it might just be me!!!!:rotfl:

Got to admit I do tend to avoid HMV and Virgin if I'm physically shopping instore as like others have said they make me feel really old (I'm 28) and there always seems to be loads of big groups of teenagers hanging around particularly on a Saturday which in itself can be a bit intimidating if you're on your own? I don't much like the layouts, I find it really confusing and just some clarity over what is where would be great. Online shopping with HMV is great though, I love their deals and got a lot of things at a much reduced price for pressies over Xmas.

    Sorry, ramble over!! Hehe :p

Hi, perhaps they could employ some 'older' staff, their experience and maturity would be an asset, and I would bet that they would be the ones approached for help by the many parents of teenagers etc who say they feel a bit intimidated!

layouts are pants and hard to know what is where.

Prices are very high too so I v rarely go in there now.

Also, quite often it seems that there are not enough categories of music...I'll be looking for an artist and go to the one that seems most likely - metal for example and then it's not there and I find it's in rock and it's like 'don't think so...'

  • I think HMV are fantastic in somerespects.

In Norwich we have to stores and just before Xmas last year one of the stores security team was tabbed in the neck and unfortunatly died.

Hmv kept the store closed for 10 days as a mark of respect to there collegue.

Ill definatly shop there in future as it shows they respect there team and this lacked in the shops (not HMV) that i used to work in.

    Good luck to Mr Immoral
