BT Studio phone not working?

I have a triple BT Studio cordless studio phone which I hardly use. The line is there mainly due to needing broadband but almost all of my calls are on my mobile.
Recently the answering function began misbehaving, giving out 'please call again' rather than the recording kicking in. I thought this might have been due to a power cut or unplugging/replugging it due to building work in the house.
Now, there is no dialing tone. I found this out when I answered a call and the caller couldn't hear me and the answering machine kicked in. I was going to try 1471 but couldn't get dialing tone. A second station is the same; the third is packed away at the moment.
Both handsets still have the digital display on them. Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong please?

It's a computer. It's probably just confused.
Reboot the base station.
BTW, are you sure the answering machine is not out of memory? IIRC, it only has 16 minutes or so.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for your reply............ I think that I ahve sorted it though.
I had a vague memory of batteries being involved when I first set it up but couldn't work out where they went. Finally got the cover off on the handset and voila, there they were. Gave them a spin around to clean the contacts and I got dialing tone back again.
Will go out and get new batteries and hopefully all will be well.0
