Stuck in Vegas due to Hurricane Irene

Family due to fly home today but stuck in Vegas as they cant get flights to their connection flight in New York. Earliest they can get a that flight home to Glasgow Friday
What are their options?
If they booked a direct flight from Vegas to London would insurance cover that?
Also will insurance cover the cost of extra nights stay in vegas?
I think their insurance is through RBS royalties

They need to be putting these questions to the claims dept. of their insurer.0

What Quentin said.
Generally the cheapest option is preferred.
Also depends on cover provided.
Remember to advise them to keep all receipts and take names of anyone they speak to, either at the hotel, airline or insurers.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Ring the insurer / airline and agree everything.
Accomodation. Flights out. Meals. Alcohol - they may pay for a drink with a meal, but don't expect them to fund a night in the bar. Get clarity over everything.
Keep receipts for everything and make notes of why you chose to fly / stay / eat / drink somewhere.
Only the insurer can answer the questions.0 -
I've been in this situation with the volcano. We were not able to get home for 2 weeks. In our case the airline was responsible for hotel and limited meals. We eventually got reimbursed about six months later0
