Apprenticeships - vent!!

Options
Just wanted to vent some anger on behalf of apprenticeships for kids...

My daughter is looking for a child care apprenticeship as a different route to college...signed up and applied for many through apprenticeships.org..

she has had interviews with training providers...no probs as she is good with studies...and then further interviews at a couple of local nurseries...

I'm angry as the last nursery offered her a trial over two days for next week (another girl did this week) but the training provider rang last night to say not to turn up as the place went to this other girl...whats the point of doing this! at least if you are going to disappoint a kid, give her the trial and let her down gently?

a previous one let her do a day only to say that they hadnt the funding...

just disappointed for her as she is making an effort....i know you have to work for opportunities and its dog eat dog, but it doesnt help when the playing field isnt level!!

Vent over..:)

There are thousands and thousands of people in the same situation, not just kids, they are all trying, you just have to do your best and hope your best is hat they want.

Look at it positively, she is learning to cope with rejection, she is learning all sorts of things, she'll get bigger knocks than this befoe she's in her twenties, its because of what is happening now she'll find it easier to cope with the knock backs and appreciate the good things.

Just be there for her. Its all I can say Im afraid, apart from good luck to her in finding a job.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Theres been a few entry level nursery nurse positions and apprenticeships adverts appear on my job center search over the last few weeks. May be worth doing a search or having a chat with your local job centre and see if they can offer any opportunities.

Have you been to your local college to see what support she could be offered if she studied childcare there? My high school didn't offer any educational support and this was reflected in my GCSEs but my college (and this was a "bad" college) couldn't have been more supportive with extra help and I passed all my courses there with the highest attainable grades.

She has a place at college for NVQ 3 in childacre which is great... she was just hoping to get an apprenticeship as it offered training and payment....I think personally she would be better off with the college as it would offer her experience in all types of child care 0 - 8.

appreciate comments... I know she will get worse things... I'm more annoyed that she made effort to go to 2 interviews, get a trial for them not to give her the chance....who knows she may of blown them away!! Onwards and Up....

Hello, sorry to hear about your daughters disappointments. I am an apprenticeship assessor and can advise it is very hard out there at the moment. Many companies are cutting back on training and also on placements. The government has removed the bulk of funding for over 19s but there is still funding in place for 16-18year olds. If your daughter has a college course for a level 3 then take it. she will come out with a good, high level qualification which will make her highly employable. If a placement comes up whilst at college, she can always do a 'trial' for a couple of days and not tell the college and then make her mind up. I wish her good luck, she must keep plugging away, it really is very tough out there for any one looking for employment.
    ;) If in doubt, don't! :o

Gutting! On the plus side, they did advise her not to waste her time and effort, rather than have her do 2 days free work for a job that no longer exists.

i'd suggest any young person looking for a job head to australia.

if your under 30 you'll get a visa no bother. from what i see the australian economy is kicking :) if i went there i'd double my salary
