parking ticket from UKPC!!

Options
Hi, I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice.
I visited a retail park today and had to park just over the white line due to a large van being parked next to me.
When I returned to my car I found I had been issued with a ticket for "not parking correctly within the markings of the bay or space". Is this legal? Do I have to pay the fine or just ignore it as most of the threads I've read seem to suggest?

Any responses would be appreciated. :)

Bearing in mind all of the other posts and advice given regarding these types of "tickets".... Do you really have to ask....?

Ignore the clowns, it's a retail park which doesn't want customers visiting as it employs a harassing company to harass it's customers.

Landowners damages would be zero, so ignore everything unless you get proper court-papers (however this is so remote it's not even worth thinking about).

So you know, it isn't a fine, nor a penalty; it states "parking charge notice" as opposed to "penalty charge notice" to cover the backsides of the issuers. In real terms, it's a de facto penalty (ie. illegal): the reason they cannot issue penalties is because law forbids one citizen penalising another; they are private, not the council. Regarding the charge, as Kite says, they are clowns and the amount they seek does not reflect losses by the landowner so you can ignore anything from those twits - even so-called threats of "court". If they do threaten you with court, tell them "be my guest" - not out of confidence that they won't but in the hope that they actualy will be so stupid as to try it because believe me, you won't need to turn up, the judge will laugh it out before a date is set.

Note - the issuing of the document itself is not illegal, in fact it is perfectly fine so long as they seek the amount lost from the action. So, £1 for all day but you park over another bay preventing a second car from parking, and let's say for argument sake you never paid for the original ticket, they can seek £2, plus pennies for envelopes. The demand for whatever they seek from you however is ultra-illegal.

One more thing: please do not fall apart like a jigsaw when threatening letters arrive. They will be from debt collectors or solicitors or both. They will look official but remember, no court case? No debt. Continued communications? HARASSMENT. You end up taking them to court!
  • Many thanks for the feedback to my UKPC query - it certainly has put my mind at rest. Looks like I have nothing really to worry about. Thanks once again. :)
