    Hmm personally, even with a guarentor in place i would not rent a property to someone who's bankrupt. However if you pay 12 months rent in cash up front and can explain the bankruptcy then that would be more acceptable.

    Alternatively your local housing authority should be able to help, they can guarentee deposit/rent etc.

  • As others have said guarantor will help, as will paying rent up front. I wouldn't pay a full 12 months, get a normal 6 month lease and pay for that, avoids problems in the future. You might also fair better dealing direct with LL and not through agencies, be willing to show proof of earnings etc. and be very upfront about your history.

    Was your wife also made bankrupt? If not it might be worth looking into having her down as tenant and you just listed as a permitted occupier. Some agents/LL won't do this, you'll have to see. This is really only an option if your wife can afford the rent on her own without your earnings. I have had some experience with this route as my partners LL would not add me as a co-tenant to the lease as at the time I was a student, but was happy with me as a permitted occupier.
