  • Hi

    How about some homeopathic treatments?
Arnica is supposed to be good for deep healing.
Those Oral B strips so that she can 'brush her teeth' without having to move.
    A compact mirror.
    Hot chocolate/soup sachets.
    Nail file
    Pen
A special recording of her children saying how much they love her
A picture of the children and poem to go on her wall.
Blue tac to put her cards up

Hope it all goes smoothly for your friend.
She's lucky to have you to help out and think of her needs.
I didn't expect to get anything done today - and so far I haven't been disappointed.

Something that I really appreciated was when my husband brought me in a selection of prepared salads from a supermarket salad bar (the sort where you pay for a plastic container and fill it yourself). He also brought me a pack of fruit salad from a supermarket. These were so tasty after the hospital food.

I found that I didn't fancy things like chocolates etc and as hospitals are usually warm and stuffy such things do not keep very well. Some interesting fruit juice, squash or flavoured mineral water is welcome as an alternative to tap water. A plastic cup with lid and bendy straw is a great idea as you cannot always get yourself sitting up enough to drink from a glass without spilling your drink!

Be careful about too many little things in her locker - she will not be able to reach into her bedside locker that easily (too far to stretch!) - maybe you could give her a box or basket with sections in it for her bits and pieces; this could sit on a chair next to her bed so that she can find everything easily.
  • I was just thinking how lucky your friend is. I hope that if I am ever in such a situation someone would go to as much trouble on my behalf.

When I was in hosp for 5 weeks my friend who was looking after family for me made up a booklet (A4 card folded in half and pages stapled together in the fold) It was pasted full of my child's drawings, jokes cut from mags, messages from family & friends, crosswords, again cut from newspapers/mags.
poems, puzzles etc Try and get as many of her friends to keep her up to date on day to day things in the booklet, they may think it is boring news but when you are in hosp. it means the world.
My booklet was titled The Grapevine
