A bit controversial, but how about a pack of anti-bacterial kitchen/bathroom wipes? Sometimes, no matter how hard the staff try things just aren't clean enough for you, or is that just the Monica comming out in me? I took a pack in with me when I had my son & after seeing the bathrooms was damn glad I did!

Also a good book, a pair of cheap plastic flip flops for the shower, note paper/cards & pen as sometimes filling the time can be difficult & lets face it everyone loves a letter no matter what age they are!

  • How about one of those reflexology gloves and some hand cream so that she can work on herself and speed her recovery. Think the store 'natural world' stocks them. Or maybe a voucher for a Craniosacral treatment or a Reflexology treatment afterwards?

chewing gum, when you dont drink your breath smells in the end, also makes you salvate which is good for a drying out mouth.

    Dressing gown.

i dunno about your hospital but mine has a tv that you need to buy a card for, pay as you go kinda thing. One of them would be good.

    perhaps a book if not

    last but not least, chocolate!!!

I was going to suggest this as well - I took a small bottle of detox with me.

Obviously depends on the person but how about a bottle of lavender oil to put on her pillow.

Take a flask of hot water with you when you go, some tea bags, some fresh milk and extra mug and some nice cakes/biscuits so that you can sit and chat over a cuppa just like home.

    Some ear plugs.

Small radio and some spare batteries.

find out when she will be able to go for some pampering such as a massage and put a voucher in the bottom of the hamper together with a babysitting token.

Offer to babysit and get her OH to organise a meal for 2 - date to be arranged - I'm suspect that her self esteem may take a bit of a battering. I can imagine that such an op will not just affect her physically.

Offer to help her wash her hair or to take her to the hairdresser when she comes out.

Make sure OH gets time to visit her without the children. Maybe all go together and then you can take the children away after a few minutes, take them to the park and bring them back for a few more minutes at the end.

What about one of those V-shaped pillows?

Help her OH fill the freezer with homemade ready meals so that he has more time to care for her when she does get home.

Feel I'm rambling a bit here and have drifted off the hamper but I was trying to think of what I might like in her situation.

Just thought of something else - one of those face spritzer things might be a refreshing thing to have by the side of the bed. The Body Shop used to do a nice Vit E one.

If the patient is a 'crafty' sort of person how about a small cross stitch? - I got a 'Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady' bookmark kit for £1 in M&S and it had everything in it bar scissors. Or a few make your own card kits? Lakeland had some cheap bits... Or if the patient has grand kids how about giving them a 'memories book' to make a start on?
  • Individual cereal packs s the i really wanted sweet cereal and only cornflakes/weetabix on offer. also you can often get milk if you are hugry at the wrong time!
  • Ah bless you what a lovely idea!
Her favourite brand of tea/coffee would be a godsend if she drinks them, hospital drinks are not good!
Depending on how long you've known her, making a photo album of her sporting dodgy hair cuts and fashions of the times with captions underneath (nothing too funny, laughing hurts!)
Audio books and a battery operated fan are also useful
When she's feeling better how about bringing in her favourite meal to eat
If you can borrow a portable DVD player even better!
Hope she has a quick recovery

  • i think a french manicure set would help pass her time away gently and give her the chance for a bit of a pamper.....but i think one of the nicest things is just being her friend she must be so worried about her own health and on top of that leaving such young babies whilst shes in hospital ...knowing you are there for her will be a huge relief and when u visit u can take little bits and brush her hair nicely and stuff so she feels "presentable".....what about lavender oil and the bach stress reliever drops??..hope shes soon on the mend hun xxx
:p dee mum of 3 "before you buy ...think,how many hours have i worked to pay for this?,do i need it? or can i get it r&r in tesco!! hee heee:A
