Speaking as a retired journalist, those were my thoughts. Plus she says she is a freelance journalist and then goes on to say "we pay a fee". So: Who is the 'we', and why a gmail email account instead of a @whatevernewspaper.co.uk account? Anybody can open a gmail account.

Actually, that was my old student newspaper. A quick Google search would have also found other freelance work, for example at Inside Housing magazine or the Guardian.
