Laptop problem

I have had my laptop 1 week short of a year and I'm now unable to charge the battery past 20%. It is usable if its plugged in but I now need to be more mobile with it and its becoming a problem.
Ive contacted Very who i purchased it from and they say to get in contact with the manufacturer. I thought as its under 12 months old it would be them who deal with repairs ?
What i would like to know is, is this a fault or is it something ive done wrong ? Anything I can do about this myself ?
Thanks in advance !
The laptop is an Acer s5551 if that makes any difference.

The retailer is passing the buck. Your contract is with them, not with Acer. Is it PCW by any chance?
However the battery is not a warranty-covered item, if that is faulty, rather than the mains adaptor. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Battery warranty is a lot shorter (6 months with some manufacturers) as it's classed as a consumable.0

Batteries are classed as consumables and you get a 6 month guarantee and thats it unless specified otherwise. Time to get a new battery and start treating it better.0
