Please help - Carpetright Cowboys

No written contract to specify Carpetright are agents for a fitter - a handwritten quote which states fitting is included and a verbal agreement. And thanks for the comment visidigi regarding supporting a local fitter but living in the Highlands the cheapest "local fitter" was £200 more expensive and couldn't fit it in for 5 weeks. So it hasn't been about not showing support, it has been about convenience to ourselves. And TBH it's not really the point, I need advice on the situation with carpetright. It shouldn't be insinuated that because I've used a big firm what do I expect. Some sort of customer service is not too much to ask. Secondly, I agree there has been a certain amount of assumption where the carpet runners were concerned but when you go to make a purchase and declare you need everything - why was this not queried by the so called carpet expert. I didn't realise it wasn't standard so at the very least he could have pointed out they weren't included.
wow. sensitive to the opposite of my point?
Besides, you've made the exact same fault here that you made with CR - you failed to provide the points of your situation that underlines the problem you are in - the facts of the situation if you wish.
I always love the 'i asked the expert and they should know the layout of my house.' threads - CR might have poor service, but they always will if you leave them to make all the decisions...
I would write to CR and point out the poor quality of the finish provided, in a letter and let them respond to your points in turn.0 -
There seems to alot of assumption in the original post and its unfair to expect CR to know the door strips etc are needed, unless specifically told they wouldn't by default add these in.
How did Carpetright price their job? I trust they visited the property to survey. If not, they should be prepared for things like going in around hearths, door stoppers, out of square rooms in old houses etc... this is hardly rocket science.
Sorry, no sympathy for Carpetright.0 -

eh?
If they charge per item, which they do, then unless you inform the store of the thresholds in the property they would end up charging you for bits they did not fit
For example, compare it to buying a car, you chose what options you want for your needs and buy accordingly - the dealer doesn't just give you a price for a car with everything, just in case you might use it - you buy an item for your needs with the features you need.
The buyer needs to provide the information, slapping a company down because they aren't psychic is just plain wrong.0 -

Disagreed.
Did Carpetright ask about doors when generating the quote? Bearing in mind a layman will not know the implications of fitting a carpet where there are no thresholds. Did Carpetright ask any other pertinent questions of the client that would assist in speccing the job?
No, what Carpetright did was work something out on the back of a pack of fags. Who cares what it looks like once we've fitted it, eh?
Zero sympathy for Capetright.0 -
Sorry i have skim read this.
Could i just point out carpetwright fitters are self employed. We purchased from CW... And got chatting to the fitter, i cannot remember how much we paid CW. However we do now get the same fitter to do our rooms for 40-50 quid per room. i believe the fitter does not get all the cash from CW, as CW skim some off. only my opinion but the buck stops with CW they have a contract with the fitter, and you have a contract with CW.
We bought all our accessories else were so i am unsure what CW do regarding invoicing you for them.0 -
Oh and btw:
Any (good) car dealer will explain all the features of a car, and extras, and agree in advance what the car comes with. If some of these terms arent understood, a dealer will explain them, possibly even working to a budget.
Not "sod it, just give 'em a basic price for a blue fiesta, if they want anything else, !!!! 'em"
So, sorry to say your car analogy is flawed.0 -

You sound like someone who's been burned by CR...
The OPost walked into CR (this is assumed based off the fact the OP contrais the comment that they phoned the manager, implying the purchase was in person, in store)
The OP went in and made a purchase in person for a product with a service, they chose to sign in person on the dotted line for the product and service, therefore accepting the offer made to them, in person.
The in person bit is very important. The chose to accept the deal given, and now dispute its content.
We get lots of these on this forum, moreover related to sofas which don't fit - if bought in person the rights are reduced - implying CR function on the back of a fag packet underlines a attitude of disgust for a business versus the facts of the matter which is the OP bought the deal offered - assumption or not, the facts of the order are that these things were not included.Oh and btw:

Nope, until the dotted line is signed its the buyers responsiblity to ensure they accept the deal offered - CR did not force the OP to buy the deal, the OP accepted the deal, which by their own admission was based on assumption - that makes the flaws in the deal down to the buyer not the seller.0 -
If it was paid by credit card, then an alternative route to take is to use Section 75.
It doesn't matter whether the Carpet Right were agent for the fitter or not, as the credit card company will have responsibility for the both the carpet and the fitting.
I would give Carpet Right one final opportunity to resolve matters, and then would solely deal with the credit card company.
Edit I was going to say this was the right way to go but on further thought the Consumer Credit Act does stipulate that there should be a direct relationship with the supplier to be equally liable
Sorry was going to go into this further but I am getting rushed to go out........"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

CR, by offering a carpet fitting service, should ensure there are NO assumptions. All it takes s twenty minutes to establish a few facts.
Never been burned by CR btw0 -

Of course we provided CR with a layout of the rooms we wanted carpeted when we provided the measurements, including all the thresholds. That's why I'm annoyed it wasn't clarified. And being a layman this should have been explained. I'm not sure as to the validity of your further points visidigi you are the one who has missed the point.
Anyway thanks for all the advice I'll refer back to CR one last time before i pursue it further.0
