Surveys and Mortgage Approval

Options
HI Everyone,

2 weeks ago we had an offer accepted on our very first home :)
The day after the offer was accepted we went to RBS to complete the mortgage application as we already had an agreement in principle.
We arranged for RBS to carry out a full building survey along with their valuation survey as we found it was much cheaper for it to be done through their surveyors than to pay for them each separately.
Anyway, we received our survey through the post last night and were wondering if RBS will be sending a copy to our solicitors or if we have to make a copy to send to them.
RBS have our solicitors details but the RBS helpline is closed for the day so I can't ask if they will be sending one.

Also I am trying to work out how long it will take for us to get a letter approving our mortgage in the post as the survey says that the property is worth what we are paying so I am hoping that we should receive something from RBS shortly to confirm that we are approved.

Thanks for any help as being a FTB is very confusing!!

    RBS will not send it.

Is there a reason why you want the solicitors to see it? They are not surveyors and will not be interested unless there is something with a legal aspect that you specifically want them to follow up.

    The survey is for you.
  • Thanks,
I just know some people who have let the solicitors have it so there is all the details in the file for the property. Somewhere safe to keep copies of everything, but if there is no need for them to see it then that puts my mind at rest.
Hopefully our solicitors will be doing the searches shortly and then we can get to exchange.

Our surveyors provided two copies of the survey, one to keep and one to pass on to the solicitors.

We got our final mortgage agreement a few days later

A lender will normally send a copy of the mortgage report and valuation to the solicitor acting for the borrower along with the mortgage offer, report on title and other instructions.

The more in depth survey is a result of a contract between the borrower and the surveyor and it is the borrower's decision to give a copy to any third party, including their solicitor.
