Designer Furniture 2 U

Firstly apologies if i have posted this in the wrong section, but i wasn't sure were else to put it.

My question is about a business/website called "Designer furniture 2 U" (all one word), has anyone ever dealt with them before and if so are the trustworthy?
They have a nice selection of oak furniture i want for a new house i bought with my partner, it would be a substantial amount and therefore i am a little apprehensive due to the amount of money involved.

Their prices seem to have all others beat, by quite a bit, but i just keep thinking of that age old saying "if it's too good to be true......"

Anyone know of these, or has any other advice on the matter, it would be very greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance

None of their furniture is unique to them, its all imported stuff that can be purchased from hundreds of different retailers in the uk, if its what you want then just type what you want into google and shop away.

Local company to me trys to sell "brooklyn oak" furniture as "bespoke and made locally", type in brooklyn oak furniture in google and you will see the many list of retailers all using the same photos of the same pieces of furniture.

Its all made in the far east, some of the better quality stuff I have seen is made in Veitnam as far as imported oak furniture goes.

there are over 600 types of oak, world wide.
far eastern oak or soviet oak is not the same as english oak.
a lot of soviet oak is illegally exported to furniture companies in china etc...
    Get some gorm.
  • Thanks for the advice firstly. It would seem it was a lucky escape as there is a notice on their site stating that it has ceased trading and there is also a number to contact for any claims.

I have found another site (lodgefurniture . co. uk). But the previous post have a bit worried about this range now. I'm not sure if i should bother anymore. How do i know what is koshur stuff?

The range they were calling 'Abbey Oak', we bought from an independent furniture shop in the Lake District who were lovely, great customer service, family run company. They called it 'Rydal Oak' (ignore the URL name):

    http://cumbriapine.co.uk/langdaleoakfurniture.aspx

We saw it in the shop on holiday last June and were getting our new house in August. I said I'd phone up when we had a moving in date to order. In the meantime, I found the same stuff cheaper at Furniture Barn:

    http://www.furniture-barn.co.uk/Collections/Chester

Phoned Cumbria Pine, asked them to price match as we liked them and wanted to order from them if possible, and as we ordered LOADS (pretty much all the furniture for moving up from a 2-bed flat to a 4-bed house) they actually undercut Furniture Barn.

For the prices we paid I know the furniture isn't old English oak hand-cut and finished by the finest craftsmen in the land... But it's really solid and looks beautiful for the price. Actually had lots of comments from friends who assume it was more expensive than it was.

Definitely worth looking at some ranges in the flesh as the look and feel is very variable. But then look online for the same stuff under different names. :money: If by 'kosher' you mean you want good quality British-made then you will inevitably pay more so it largely depends on your budget.

It's also worth looking in the flesh as oak furniture varies a lot in colour. Ours is relatively dark (certainly darker than it looks on the Furniture Barn website).

I tend to avoid internet sites with 4u or 2u in the name. :D
  • Thanks for that pinkteapot, i will check out the site.

As for the quality or it having to be "real english oak", i'm not really sure to be honest. I suppose as long as it is well made, sturdy and lasts the test of time then i am happy. It would have to be dark rather than light in colour in order to match the floors and decor fo the new house.

Basically my partner who i have bought a house with has never had anything nice (furniture wise) in her life, mainly due to a looser of a previous partner. So she has had to scrape together what she could and care for and raise 3 children on her own with no help at all.
I just want her to have a nice home and belongings for the first time in her life, so just trying to get the best i can.

I am still open to any and all suggestions of reputable oak sellers online
