Learning to Drive

Hey folks,

My girlfriend has been feeling a little down lately, shes recently qualified as an SLT from a UCL and has been desperately searching for a job. Unfortunately that isnt going too well and shes stuck in a part timer and is getting quite down about it, then she started getting all depressed about how we dont have savings/deposit(we've started) a house, car etc etc.

Anyway the only one i can do something about right now is the driving lessons, for me shes not the ideal driver (panics very very easy) so i'm at a loss as to what courses to go for, Intensive or traditional?
I know she can learn both styles because ive seen her cram books and books into her head before exams (watching a group of students study last minute is like watching the wildlife channel...) but i need a bit of advice from the learner drivers/newly learned :D

Also, talk price & recommendations?

P.s. i cant ask her, because its a surprise. Oh and location is north Nodnol (true red dwarf style).

Do both yourselves a favour and go to a driving school for at least first few the initial lessons, it will be a lot less stressful.:)

Sorry my fault, ive edited the original post. I'm not the one teaching her, just looking for a driving school/course that is best for someone like her and for peoples experiences on both, especially people whom had/have absolutely no driving experience.

to give an example of her nervousness-ness, she is very jumpy in traffic, she wont cycle especially on busy roads and will literally lean away from cars, buses ect when she's riding on the back of my motorbike. (which is THE most annoying thing you can do as a big ol' lump of pillion hassle  )

My apologies, it was poorly worded.

  • How about seeing if there is any schools locally that offer lessons on private land etc, just to get her used to being behind the wheel before she actually has to go on the road.

TBF, I'm a very nervous passenger, but I'm not a nervous driver at all so you might find she's alright :)

hmm this might be possible with her work, they have a large carpark that she might be able to use. although i dont know if they 'own' it.

i would get her a cheap car to practice in until shes comfortable (thats how i learnt both cars and bikes in my youth, albeit not strictly legitimate :() but i'm a little more mature now so my gut is saying "go the more expensive legal route" and i doubt she'd have any hand in it either :T

anyone found intensive courses particularly hard? would getting a few normal lessons first then taking on an intensive course be a better option, it might be slightly more expensive but i dont want her having any accidents.

  • Look and ask around for instructors.Cheapest is normally not the best, same goes for expensive instructors.I went with the cheapest block of lessons and they ripped me off.Im with scotties driving school im having a mock test soon then the real thing, hes very reasonably priced £20PH and a very good HONEST instructor.Good luck;-)
  • P.S, My uncle is an instructor if you want his details, reason why i didnt go with him was hes in london n a bit too far awayx
