I have read conflicting things about this online so looking for some guidance from the good folk on here.
My microwave is around 4 years old and the paint inside it has chipped so the metal shows through on the bottom. I have read various things about the waves escaping, radiation and sure death if I continue to use it and other sites saying there isn't a problem with it.
Any ideas? If I need a new one, a recommendation for something cheap and powerful would be apprecaited. T.I.A.

Well I dont think death by microwave is a common thing to be honest unless your small enough to actualy fit inside the thing, I had one that the paint went on just simply due to lack of care for it and it worked fine, I would say use it until it packs up, if the paint is coming off of the top inside make sure you cover every item that goes in.
You can buy microwaves from approx £20.00 for a new one going up to a couple of hundred for an all singing all dancing one.0 -

Unless you start to grow another ear on your forehead or something, I would just continue to use it...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I am sure you will notice my post on the health board in a few months, not seeking health advice but looking for where to get cheap earrings as I have an extra ear on my forehead.
Thanks for the advice everyone. No, I don't fit in the microwave so it sounds like I am safe.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

On a more serious note, the only negative effect of the paint chipping is that the cooking performance will be reduced slightly (tha paint they use aids the microwaves to "ping" around the cavity.
Even if you had a microwave that had no paint inside (bear in mind that some microwaves don't have paint, they are just metal) and the seals had been completely removed from the door, you would still be exposed to less radiation than you are from a mobile phone...
(Oh if the 3rd ear thing does happen, make sure you post pics)If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
