Home Insurance B&C advice please.

Options
Hi

I was hoping for some advice please. I currently own a 2 bed house which - due to a work re-location - I am selling.

I have building and contents insurance on it at the moment which runs out on 9th September. I am due to start my new job in London at the end of October/beginning of November, and due to it being in London and the extortionate cost of housing there I can only afford to rent, and buildings insurance is covered in the rent cost.

I understand that buildings insurance is mandatory, but I really don't want to be stuck with an extortionate cancellation charge if I take a policy out and only use it for 6 weeks. I would also be looking to continue with the contents insurance in my new property.

What is the most cost-effective way to go about this? My current policy renewal is also about £50 more than I usually pay as I tend to switch around every year to get the best deal so I'm not sure if just renewing that is the most MSE option either.

Does anyone have any advice they could give me?

Thanks

MQ

If it were me (I did this when we moved 2 months after renewal) I would shop about for best price for new address with contents only, then whatever company comes up best take out a pol with them for what you need at your current address (check out mid-term adjustment admin charges etc though) then when you move just ring and advise that you need to take the buildings cover off and notify them of new address/residential status. Might be worth phoning to incept the policy rather than doing it online, I know we waive the admin fees if we are advised at inception that there will be an address change so soon into the policy term.
