WinXP X64 Questions

Options
Hello.

Looking to put Windows XP 64-bit on my new system, and I found this:
http://www.ekind.co.uk/Inu_products/INU_ProdDetailsL3.asp?ref=36965578

but for less than £30 this looks a bit dodgy, I mean the next priced up is £84. Is this software OK and legit for purchase?

Also, been thinking of going for an X64 with a Vista upgrade coupon. X64 Pro typically seems to come with Vista Business upgrades. Does the Business version have the same features as Vista Ultimate, and if not, which version of Windows XP 64 do i have to buy to qualify for an upgrade to Vista Ultimate?

Also, as per the OEM license, you have to include at least one piece of 'essential' hardware with the software. In the past, when buying standard XP 32-bit OEM's the company (not the one above) have thrown in an IDE cable to satisfy that requirement. Was looking on the Aria site, iand in the user comments section they were talking about hard drives, etc as the hardware. what is the minimum under the license that has to be included with an OEM distribution? If someone could advise me, I could buy it, and if the company refused to sell it for whatever reason at least I could prove I was not violating the license.

Finally, does anyone know if Windows XP Pro 64-bit is available in the Corporate version and if so, where from?

Hussein.

  • It doesn't have the same features as ultimate, i've seen a page where it has the differences,

I'd recommend ultimate. Unlike XP Pro, business is generally a lot more business orientated. Mind you, you can buy business now and have an upgrade route to ultimate.

windows 64bit is not the same as 32bit a lot of apps need serious tweaking to run properly, same with hardware drivers and you need a pretty decent graphics card.

that said it is a lot better os (well for microsoft) for droping backwards compatiblity and being compiled for the x86_64 instruction set.

if you have over 4 gigs ram and need to stay with ms then 64 bit is the only way to go but how many people have over 4 gigs that arent running servers.

I have 6GB of RAM sitting on the desk just waiting for my new system, and have the G80 Nvidia graphics card on order. So yes, x64 is the way I have t go.

That upgrade route to vista, is that available with an XP Pro x64 purchase and if so do you have any recommendations as to where from? Or would I have to purchase a full priced Vista Ultimate upgrade/release?
