Home Delivery Minimum Spend, Doe's anyone know why Asda has a £25 minimum spend

Options
In order to qualify for their home delivery service whilst Tesco doesn't require any minimum expenditure.. How's this competing with Asda's rivals ?

All that 10% double the difference mush I want some bloody sweets delivered as they're exclusive to Asda yet I feel dubbed into spending £25 + £3 delivery if a voucher code doesn't submit.

Yah I know I should be emailing Asda, Just wanted a heads up as to why and whether it's just in my area or everywhere else ?

I'm in the South West of the UK. Nearest Asda aprox 14miles one way. :(

  • because otherwise they would be driving a van + driver + fuel + tax+ insurance blah blah just for a pack of sweets?

Spending £25 in asda is a lot harder than in tesco, to make it worth their while to deliver, they must have a minimum....and theyve decided it's £25. I guess?

Of course, they could just charge a high price for delivering orders less than £25, but then we'd complain about that to?

I guess, But my point being is they are not keeping up with current rival Tesco. £3 - £5.50 seems an adequate amount for delivery of any purchase period especially if "Van may be in the area" is showing in the present delivery booking slots.

This just seems they are discriminating against Students and do not vaule our custom, Obviously Id buy a little more than just a 'pack' of sweets but strecthing to £25 just to qualify for home delivery seems unreasonable.

I purchased from Tesco online to the vaule of £16 + £3.50 delivery and it came delivered from 40+ miles away (One way) and I used Topcashback site and £5.05 is pending from that transaction.

If Tesco can do it, than so can Asda or they should quit with this we're 10% cheaper then Tesco crap. Anyways I shall email them and tell them what's up!

    thanks (=

Tesco seemed to charge £6/7 when I attempted to order online... then they said they wouldn't deliver to my first floor flat!
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D

  • i think the delivery charge is very fair - i would not be able to drive there and back to my local store (40 ish miles) for the £5 delivery slot i usually book on a friday.
As for the minimum spend of £25, i think it is reasonable amount for someone to spend on a weekly shop (even a single person by the time you've added food, toiletries and cleaning products into it). For a family of 4 my £25 is usually reached pretty quickly!!

One of the many good things about Ocado is their variable pricing. We had a delivery yesterday evening and it was under £2! They vary their prices depending on the slot. The downside is you have to spend £75, but that's sadly all too easy these days!
