Video files. Help needed

I've got loads of .MOD files which I took off a camcorder from our hols.
I changed the .MOD into .mpeg and can now view them using windows media player.....we're getting there !
I can edit them with Videoredo Plus.....
But I can't burn them with nero 6....even with the DVD plug-in installed.
I think the reason why is that these files dont seem to come with any information attached. I cant adjust the speed of the files in WMplayer like I can with other video files, plus when you look at the files there is an mpeg icon instead of a still of the first scene of the video ..
..would I be right to assume I need to re-author them
What does re-author mean I havent got a clue what I'm doing

I am not sure myself,
but try copying the files on the desktop and then rename them, this will just mean that its not connected to any other system and might finalise them.0
