where to find big tupperware to transport cakes?

im planning on baking a birthday cake for someone (although have a couple of months to practise before needs doing finally!)

does anyone know where i can get a large, square box for cakes? with a flat lid too so can put the cake on the lid with the box part on top (if that makes any sense!)

  • I bought a cake carry box,the type where you stand the cake on the bottom and there is a domed lid that locks on in John Lewis and another in Lakeland.
Most department stores do plastic storage in various sizes though.

If your cake is not too big, you can use a Quality Street or Roses tin, just put the cake on the lid part rather than in the box so that it's upside down, if you see what I mean!

I have a few of these as well, they're fantastic and much better quality than the price tag would suggest.

They do only come in the round shape though. How big are you planning to make your cake?
  • I got a "proper" cake one in Discount UK (new shop I discovered the other day) for £1.99!

If you've no joy at £land, it may be worth a look.

Been hunting for ages as DM lent me hers (with my birthday cake in) and my dog stole it off the worktop and chewed through the tupperware box/lid (DM used a square box as described in OP).... have been looking for months for one to replace it.

If it's just a one-off then a cardboard cake box might be the best solution. If you out the cake on a board, and get a box the same size as the board it won't move around. You can make up three sides of the box and slide it in the fourth so there is no risk of damaging it when putting it in, and you don't have the worry of it falling out like you do if you use a plastic box or tin upside down. It should also be cheaper!
