no as no mpr has been assigned AND THIS CAN ONLY be done by National grid or an IGT, as I said it mill most probably be for the meter. £57.00 is the cost of a normal credit meter U6.

I work on both gas enquiries and gas emergency so do actually know who owns what,and that as I have stated in previous posts the op will have to arrange a meter installation through what ever meter management company they use and in the case of bg that is rarely National Grid Metering these days as they have their own MAM's

but the main thing is the supply to the property and mpr assigning, this can only be done via national grid or IGT. Suppliers dont get involved, apart from requesting the forms

Fundamentally correct, but much depends upon the terms and conditions, which I assume were supplied with British Gas’s quotation letter, possibly printed on the reverse.

In your shoes, I would email (not phone) BG, quoting their reference etc, pointing out that you consider that they have entered into a binding contract with you to carry out the specified work for £80(?). My email would add a suggestion that if British Gas disputes this, to please state its reasons (in writing) to you as a matter of urgency. It is important to get BG to state its position in writing so that you can consider it fully. The onus is on BG to show good reason why it is not bound by the agreement.

Once you receive their reply you will know exactly what BG’s position actually is (as opposed to merely speculating what it might be), and if necessary you can post again here and/or take legal advice.

The mprn will be generated and provided when the supply is installed and the op will need to pass that number on the gas supplier of choice who will arrange for the meter be installed

No MPRN will be generated at this stage as supply not in place let alone site survey done.

As clearly stated by Ofgem and National Grid on the websites if you would like to check this,
