Redundancy help

Looking for a bit of advice here.

Company went into administration and opened up again taking me with them, have been working with them around a year and have just been made redundant. I got given a letter stating that there are restructuring the company and as a result of this my job has been made redundant. Its totally out of the blue considering i was given a wage rise and a new title and job description just last month. I smell a rat and think they are perhaps going to get someone cheaper in to do the job.... i have been given 1 week to appeal.

Anyone any advice?

Many thanks Hobble

Sorry, but smelling a rat doesn't cut it - you have to catch the rat. What reason have you been given for the redundancy? How were you selected? What process was used?
  • No process was used, i went to work and was handed a letter stating i was being made redundant! Had no idea as was no warning! Reason given stated my job has been made redundant? The company is restructuring? I have no idea how i was selected there are only a few employees in the company!

In that case it would appear that it is an unfair dismissal because you were not given any consultation. If it is a small company then it may be that there was no requirement to have a selection process if nobody elses job was in the same "frame", so any compensation for the process fault (lack of consultation) may be minimal given that the outcome may have been the same regardless of the process fault.
  • There Are a few contracted workers who can do a similar job to me but not as much as i can do! My issue is the fact they just changed my job and gace me a wage rise so recently! Surely they knew this was coming before giving me the rise i feel they have had what they need for me building up the company and now getting rid of me! Thabks for your replies!
