Contents Insurance Whilst In Remover's Storage

Help! Moved out of my house today, because I've not been able to tie up the exchange/completion dates on the the properties I've bought and sold, I've put my contents into the removal firm's storage facility for a week or so whilst my purchase completes.

After previously checking with my current insurer (eSure), I turned down the removal firm's own insurance as I was told that my contents would be covered by an endorsement on my existing insurance and just to phone eSure once I'd moved out and tell them the name/address of the company storing my possesions.

So, phoned up this afternoon and have now been told that my contents cannot be insured by eSure as they have to be at a physical residential address, even if I don't have buildings insurance for that address. Furthermore, the policy has now been cancelled as I've nothing they can insure.

Removal firm have now all gone home for the BH weekend, so I face a long wait till Tuesday with my contents unisured.

Has anyone any ideas of anything I can do in the meantime?

Thanks

Daz

    they dont work saturdays?

Only thing you can do is contact an insurance broker and ask if they can help. - Have a look at Towergate, they may be able to help.

Seems harsh that they couldn't just "suspend cover for a week", but it the exclusion is the policy.

Have you no contents with you, surely you kept some stuff with you, if so I'd go down the line of saying, I normally have £40,000 contents insured with you, £35k is in storage which I appreciate you are not covering, but would like £5k insured at my temporary address, which should be for no longer than a week, and then I want the full sums insured transferred to my new permanent address.

By cancelling the entire policy they have also left you vulnerable for cover on jewellery and other items that may have been on the All Risks section.

Doesn't get around the problem of the contents currently in storage though.

Did you get the name of the eSure representative who told you that your contents would be covered whilst in storage ?
You have grounds for complaint if you were told inaccurate facts.

You should contact another insurance company or broker to make sure your contents are fully insured whilst in storage and also whilst in transit from storage to your new home. Many companies will be open today.
