bathroom installation quote

hi I had my first quote today for installing my new bathroom.

I am supplying the suite, electric shower, taps etc. Plumber is supplying a new waste pipe bit and some wood to box in cistern.

It's just swapping a like for like 3 piece suite and electric shower.

No tiling/painting etc etc

Guy said it would take about a day and a half and his quote(only verbal at the moment) is 750. Seems a bit expensive to me but then I am a skinflint.

This is one of only 3 plumbers I could fid that are available before March and the bathroom I have just now leaks badly and doest work properly so I urgently need my new one fitted, so I'm worried that I might end up with a cowboy just cos they are available next week.

  • £750 I'd say is a bit steep, I paid £250 for exactly the same as you minus the shower.

If someone is available next week there is usually a good reason why......
  • Where about are you, as London would be more expensive? I would charge between £250 and £350 for replacing bathroom suite. I would say another £150 for boxing in and shower. So £500 max I would say.
  • I'm in Aberdeen.

Had another guy round today, not sure what his price will be he's writing me up a proper breakdown but mus say I got better vibes off him, yesterdays guy seemed a bit of a cowboy especially after he phoned me today demanding to know whether I wanted him to do it or not as he had other work he could do if I didnt.

Told him I was in the process of getting other quotes and even if his price was the best I certainly wouldnt be agreeing on the basis of a verbal quote and wanted a written breakdown. I suspect I wont be hearig from him again
  • Anyone ringing up demanding to know if you want them to do the work isn't someone who has too much work on. More like he wants the work as no else is accepting his high quotes!
