try https://www.ownersabroad.co.uk for apartments - maybe in Porec (fly Easyjet to Rijeka but car hire in Croatia can be pricey) or (fly Ryanair to Trieste in Italy and drive approx 2-3 hours to Porec, mainly on duals or M-ways with relatively low cost tolls eg less than £5 each way). Family friendly. Food good - heavy Italian influence in that area. Goods imported from EU can be pricey. Konzum supermarket chain well stocked - multilingual staff in Porec. Bank machines "speak" English. Some English spoken but expect to be assumed to be German first in restaurants. (If you speak German so much the better.) Expect up to an hour's traffic queue at EU border back into Slovenia. Zero percent alcohol if you're driving. Locals overtake like Ayrton Senna. Spectacular ampitheatre at Pula. Use https://www.via.michelin.co.uk for decent maps. Drive with your headlights on all the time in Italy and Croatia. Interesting place but Spain is easier to "operate" in some ways and not necessarily more expensive.0

Diocletian's Palace in Spilt is amazing, the bars and shops are located in the buildings within the walls.
There is a farmers market in the main square.
Stay in Trogir on an island (landbridge to the mainland) with marinas and beaches, and only 30 mins from Split airport.
Theres lots of good accommodation on the net and you will find something completely different in Croatia.
I loved it when I visited 2 years ago. Dont know about the nightlife on Trogir but I was staying just outside Split. When I saw Trogir I wished I could stay there!0 -
Croatia is still fairly quiet and is great for a relaxing holiday. As others have mentioned, there are quite a few cultural sites, such as Dubrovnik Old Town and Diocletian's Palace in Split. Life in Croatia is taken at a steady pace, you'll find many Croats just sitting in cafes and people watching for much of the day. There's not that much in the way of nightlife except in bigger cities, but bars/cafes tend to stay open late pretty much everywhere.
You should try and either stay on or visit and Island, Hvar, Krk, Brac and Trogir are definitely worth a look.
September is still quite warm, but you do get some storms at this time of year, but nothing that should last too long.
Food on the coast is excellent, if you like seafood, it's fresh and reasonably priced. Inland and in the north of the country it tends to be more hearty meat dishes.
Local brew Karlovacko is nice, and I don't normally like lager. Stronger than Stella but cheaper!
Most young Croatians speak some English and the people tend to treat visitors very well.
There's a good website called Visit Croatia (Google it) which has loads of information for visitors.0
