House ownership/domestic problem

My partner and I are splitting up and I need legal advice as our house (which is on the market) is in his name only. We have spent the last 7 years renovating and selling houses but unfortunately I stupidly let him put the house we live in now solely in his name. We have just sold a house that was in my name but the procedes are in his bank account and he says he is not giving me anything! Help! Am I entitled to anything - I have done half the work on the houses!

you need a solicitor, not some internet forum opinions.

Chewmylegoff is totally correct. You have a substantial right to claim and my opinion is that, subject to certain criteria, you would be entitled to up to half of the money for both houses after mortgages and debts were paid.

Do note that I said "subject to certain criteria". That's why you need a solicitor.

You need a solicitor fast and to lodge a restriction order on the house in his name.

Are you married or just partners?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Post what town you live in or nearest to and someone will recommend a good solicitor with any luck - if you don't already have one.

Much easier if you are married - are you?

If not you have two problems:
    1) the old adage "possession is 9/10ths of the law" is a real issue - he possesses, you have to fight to get your share.
    2) evidence/proof. Can you show that you have a right to the cash he possesses and/or the house he possesses

You need either a matrimonial solicitor who can look at the assets within the marriage and how they should be divided or a property/business solicitor whocan help prove you contributed to the business/property

I totally sympathise with you, you've obviously been too trusting!
Just wondering, if the house you've just sold was in your name, how come the proceeds ended up in his bank account?
I'm also wondering if there's a tax avoidance issue here with him?

Yes. Without that, he could sell it and nip off with 100% of the net proceeds.
