A scenic road would be to get yourself across to Coventry (by whatever means you choose!) A46 to Warwick and the A429 all the way down to Cirencester and onto Chippenham. At Chippenham pick up the A350 which will take you all the way down to Blandford Forum from where Milton Abbas is pretty nearby. Bourton on the Water and Cirencester are nice places to look around. Certainly the A429 is a nice road to drive although you won't be bombing it.

Not really - you drive right down the middle of Bourton (its a straight high street type place that you just roll on through) and although Cirencester has a sort of ring road its no hassle to just head into town for a break. Further on past Chippenham, Lacock village is just off the A350 which is very scenic. The A350 further on is also pretty nice but not a fast driving road as it winds and twists a bit in places. That said you can probably easily do the A350 bit in 2 hours and the whole lot in under 5 depending on how many tractors you catch!

That's excellent advice although Bourton is just off the Fosse Way - think you probably mean Moreton in Marsh?

Personally I'd suggest stopping at Stow on the Wold and Lacock

    Sorry you're right it's A350.
