The thing to do is use Waitrose only for what it does best - high quality items that Sainsburys and the rest can't sell. There's no point buying everyday products there.

I'm not sure about Morrison's though. The two I've been in recently (Canterbury and Hastings) were cheap enough but they looked like the goods had been crammed in with a bulldozer and they'd recruited their customers from the local rehabs (particularly Hastings - which was... pretty rough).

I have been followed by security in a Waitrose, one in Sheffield!
    That's hilarious!!!!

The Sheffield Waitrose is the only one I've ever been in and even then I've only been in once.

The OH and I were both amused as the checkout lady called him 'Sir'. He's certainly never been referred to as that before!

I loved the layout of the shop and the wide aisles and it was so peaceful and all the shelves looked stuffed full of great food, but unfortunately we couldn't afford anything!

Waitrose 'getting' expensive: which store were you all in b/c this has never been an affordable store to shop in for me: perhaps for the odd price matched item (which inevitably is cheaper elsewhere anyway) but I only use it for things I cannot buy elsewhere as its too expensive for my wallet!

I do think though that the staff in the stores I've visited are far more customer friendly then in other stores (especially Tesco and Asda both of whose security guards seem to have a field day with me for reasons unknown) never seen as miserable staff as I have in these stores yet when I worked in retail (and hated my job was an understatement) I was still able to force a smile and look people in the eye when I spoke to them.
The staff at Waitrose try to be friendly, thats something some other supermarket stores don't seem to bother with.

I just love waitrose for their reduced items! two free desserts today because they honour their multi buy offers on reduced items.

I could never do a big shop there, but you can't fault the quality of their produce.

This is the reason why I went to our Waitrose in the first place, I've heard so much about their reduced items.... nowhere to be seen in the Newark store!
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D

Same here, only been in Sheffield one once too, and can't
    afford to shop there anyway.

I still shop there sometimes and find I can get through without spending excessively if I'm careful, which is great as they are my nearest big shop. However, I find Sainsburys much cheaper and their quality generally just as good so I make the effort when I have time to go there instead.

We were treated really rude by 2 members of staff, one looked down her nose at us and couldn't stop staring at our tattoos!

Yes, I do know how you feel - it is truly dreadful when you are treated like that. I went into a Tesco (think that is what it was called - or something like that) and apparently you have to have a plastic card to shop there - the extremely rude person on the till (with tattoos all down his arms) insisted that we have one.
I don't know what the card is for - is it a working class identity thing ??

I would suggest you try there....................... :D:D
