Waitrose - nice, but getting too expensive!

I love Waitrose, especially when I can find reductions at the end of the day, but I have recently started popping into Morrisons and am amazed that most basic items are so much cheaper here. I think I'm a convert. The staff seem much friendlier than the last time I shopped here, so all a good experience so far. Food quality seems very good also. Just wondered if anyone else out there is about to abandon Waitrose due to the high cost. No wonder it's always so peaceful in there and no queues, maybe a lot of people are thinking the same way as me?

Just moved to a town with a Waitrose & after hearing from friends about the reductions, Mr.Kitty & I went for a shop. We were treated really rude by 2 members of staff, one looked down her nose at us and couldn't stop staring at our tattoos! I complained and the manager apologised but I can't say I would shop in there again.
The items we did by, own brand cola and crisps were horrible. Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!

I like waitrose, but i only buy certrain things from there - reduced meat (couldn't afford it full price!) fresh rolls and then offers on crisps/etc.
It's so expensive compared to other places, the quality is great, but i do hate that its the only place within walking distance for me, so sometimes I have no choice but to shop there!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

I shop online. Waitrose deliver free for orders over £50, and they stock some nice things other supermarkets don't. And they price-match to Tesco on some items. But you're right, Maz, their basic stuff is very expensive.
I ordered from them at Christmas after Sainsbury -- my usual store -- and Tesco both let me down. They rang to cancel but arranged to keep my order till I could get it collected and when I couldn't get a taxi -- the city was almost snowbound... -- found one for me.
Then when their new web page was clunky and ordering was a nightmare, they sent us all ten £5 e-vouchers.
Kitty_Ears, is it a long-established Waitrose in a snooty small town? I know the kind of place...0 -

YES! It upset us quite a bit, particularly when I've been in there before (covered up) and the checkout assistant was okay with me. This one barely made eye contact with us, just gave me the change and didn't give us any bags. I wrote a letter explaining how I feel we're an articulate and educated couple, how we look shouldn't change that!

I stopped shopping at Waitrose in 2009 as I felt I could get better value for money elsewhere even with the added petrol costs.
But I do treat myself to a pint of organic milk from there every so often as a treat for behaving

i buy bits and pieces from there now and again but find it too expensive for all my shopping, I have bought my shopping this week from Aldi and so far I am happy with it0

Yes... small snooty town, small snooty Waitrose... I bet there are snooty cafes there too.
*Move town*

Waitrose meat does go on offer every now and then, worth keeping an eye on their website for this.
Early in the week fresh food does get reduced.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Bad news about the snooty Waitrose staff. I have to say that in my local store the staff are very helpful and friendly, though I do remember once at the meat counter a guy was pressing the assistant to confirm how fresh the meat was and after a while she said to him "Sir, this IS Waitrose you know", which I thought was quite amusing!
Interesting to hear others' views, thank you. I'll probably still go there but think I need to be less complacent and look at other stores that offer better value all round. One great Waitrose find I do think is excellent is the Heston Chocolate and Rosemary ice-cream - very nice, and that small pot always seems to go a long way, as it's so rich.
I'm definitely impressed with Morrisons anyway, so will continue my discovery of what they have to offer!0 -

Exactly, I've heard their their reductions are great so off I went... only to be very upset by it all! I won't go again!
Oh! I just remembered, I have been followed by security in a Waitrose, one in Sheffield! I need to add in my signature that Waitrose doesn't like me and I don't like them! :rotfl:Bad news about the snooty Waitrose staff.
