Totally Confused
Hi guys . In the process of switching act and to be honest a bit confused.
I currently use very little energy as I don't stay in my house allot at the moment thru work.
currently use gas = 44 khw , elec = 159.
this is the last quarter readings from april - july.
I most prob will be living there more i n the coming future so what is the best tariff , should i go capped , or flexible, i n case prices come down , but chances are slim, .
currently on Scottish power Capped Price Energy Sept 2011 NSC Online.

You'll need your anticipated annual consumption in kWh (your supplier may be able to help here if you don;t have that figure) and put it into a comparison site.
Only you can then decide if the premium of the surety of knowing you have a fixed/capped price until whenever, is worth the added cost of taking your chances on a variable rate."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Total gas is £158
and elec is £27. yep told you they was low, but that i expect to go up, i have been on capped for last 4 yrs so just wanna see what is best in peoples mind.0 -
I suspect that your gas meter reading is 44 meter units (either cu m or 100's cu ft, depending on whether your meter is metric or imperial), not 44kWh. A quarterly gas bill for 44kWh would be around £1.50-absurdly low, even for a summer quarter.
You need to check what your meter reads in (it's marked on it) and then calculate your kWh usage by applying the relevant conversion factor to get to kWh's.
There is no 'best', if you want the peace of mind offered by a fix then you will need to pay more than for a variable.
Given your tiny usage at present, the differences will be minimal. Most of your bill will be standing charges, so a non-SC tariff would see the obvious choice, unless you expect your consumption to increase. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
