Car insurance for drivers living overseas

I've seen an old post on this topic but wondered if anyone has any up to date info...
An elderly friend of mine is renewing her car insurance (currently with Zurich) and needs to be able to allow her daughter, son-in-law and son to be able to use her car when they visit with their families as she lacks the confidence to drive them and their children.
However, they live in Switzerland and Spain respectively and every internet quote I receive will only allow named drivers who are UK residents. I have phoned a couple of insurers but they have simply refused to offer cover, either on a temporary or permanent basis and I'm not confident that her current insurance (which she has relied upon for years in this regard) does, in fact, cover these additional drivers even though the documents state she is insured for herself and "Drivers over the age of 25".
She seems to be paying a considerable premium (about £110 over on-line quotes with 3 named drivers) for this wide-ranging usage, though.
Previous forum posts indicated that Churchill may offer ad hoc foreign drivers to be added if you call them but I wondered if any forum posters have recent experience or knowledge of any other competitive providers who will allow this on either a permanent or ad hoc basis.
Thanks
